Journals, accounts, transfers and ledgers; reports, backups and sharing — all on a local database that opens whether or not you are online.

Double-entry bookkeeping

Journals, a chart of accounts, transfers and subsidiary ledgers. Debits and credits balance on every entry, and balances are kept exactly as they were recorded.

Your data stays yours

Everything sits in a SQLite database on your machine. No cloud account, no accounting records held on a server.

Share directly

Share a journal with an email address and grant read, write and delete separately. The connection is made between the two devices.

Built-in AI assistant

Attach your invoices, statements and receipts and let the assistant draft the transfers, query your accounts and put together a report.

Reports made to print

Reports come out with their tables, headings and charts in place, and print to paper or PDF through a page layout of their own.

Backup and restore

A backup is a zip of plain JSON documents — readable by anything that opens a zip. Restore only ever adds, so nothing you already have is overwritten.

How It Works

The server introduces you; the books talk device to device

netbalance.net does two things only: it confirms who you are from your email address, and it helps two online devices find each other. The journal itself never passes through it.

  1. Passwordless sign-in

    You enter your email address and finish signing in from the link you receive. No password to choose, and none to store.

  2. The device registers

    The app connects to the server and is given a temporary node address, good only for that session.

  3. You share a journal

    Pick the other person's email address and what they may do. All the server learns is who may reach whom.

  4. The devices meet

    The two apps connect directly, and the journal is read and written live on the device that owns it.

A shared journal is not copied

A journal shared with you is not downloaded to your device: every screen asks the device holding it, live. What you see is what it holds right now — in exchange, that device has to be online.

One copy, no conflicts

Because the ledger lives in one place, there are no versions to reconcile. A change made on one side is read straight from the source the next time the other side opens that screen — no background layer trying to merge copies.

The assistant runs inside the app and reaches the same things you do: it queries accounts, searches entries, drafts transfers and produces reports. Sign in with your Google account and it uses Gemini models.

Reports come with their charts

The reports the assistant produces carry charts alongside their tables. A chart is embedded as SVG rather than as a screenshot, so it stays sharp when you print the report or save it as a PDF.

The assistant builds the chart from the entries in your journal — you only say which accounts and which period you want to see.

Legislation, read from the source

Turkish law — kanun, KHK, tüzük, yönetmelik, presidential decrees and tebliğ — is searched as published in the Resmî Gazete, and the assistant cites the mevzuat.gov.tr link for whatever it relied on.

Attach your documents

Images go to the model as they are; PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OpenDocument, CSV, HTML, Markdown and archives are converted to text first. Up to 10 MB per file.

Because the assistant runs on your own Google account, the Gemini CLI free tier applies: 60 requests a minute and 1,000 a day. Beyond that, Google One subscriptions are available.

Security

Exactly what the server sees, written down

"Your data is safe" is easy to say. These two lists are the whole of what the server actually does, and what it genuinely cannot see.

What the server does

  • Confirms that an email address is really yours.
  • Helps two online peers find each other.
  • Signs the short-lived access tokens that introduce one device to another.
  • Records which email address may reach which journal.

What the server cannot see

  • Your journals, accounts, transfers and amounts.
  • Your reports and the documents you attach.
  • The contents of what flows between two devices.
  • Your backup files — those stay on your disk.

Encrypted on the device

Your session token is stored encrypted with AES-256-GCM under a key specific to that machine. Node addresses are reissued on every connection — a temporary address, not a lasting identity.

Said plainly

In the identity chain the server is the trusted party: it is what signs the tokens. Accounting data reaches it at no point in the design — there is no copy of it there to hold.

A few things to know about your device, your books, and sharing.

Can I use NB offline?

Yes. You can open the journals stored on your own device offline. To access a shared journal, both devices need to be online. The AI assistant also requires an internet connection.

Does sharing send a copy of my journal?

No. The journal stays on your device. The person you invite reads entries directly from your device and can edit them if you grant permission. You control read, write, and delete permissions separately.

Which computers does NB support?

NB is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux. The macOS build supports both Apple Silicon and Intel processors. Published builds and download links are listed in the section below.

How do I back up my books?

The app exports your records as a zip file containing JSON documents. Keep that file somewhere safe. Restoring a backup adds new records without overwriting existing ones.

Free to download, and it keeps itself up to date once installed. The macOS build is universal — it runs on both Apple Silicon and Intel machines.

NB is currently in beta. It is fit for daily use but still changing, and your books live only on your own device — so keep regular backups.
